Pocket Noise - Patrick Brennan

Pocket Noise is a collection of images showing what happens when my cell phone accidentally takes a picture in my pocket. Although each image here initially presented as just a black rectangle, I was curious if perhaps there might be something lurking in the darkness. To test this hypothesis, I cranked up the exposure in editing software and was delighted by the results. Each unintentional photograph of the inside of my pant and coat pockets revealed its own color palate and pattern. After pushing the previously hidden pixels by further adjusting the white point, contrast and exposure settings to their max, even more detail emerged. Additional transformations occurred when enlarging the original files to 8X10 inch prints. Prior to this discovery, I would have deleted these mistakes without another thought. Now however, I look forward to utilizing this experimental process to investigate any information concealed in images previously considered useless.
