While You Were Sleeping is a collection of photographs demonstrating astral phenomena. In order to capture such wonders as shooting stars, the Northern Lights and Milky Way, I had to seek out clear dark skies. I traveled far from cities to avoid light pollution, and stayed up many nights excited about what I was experiencing, anxious to see what the camera had recorded once I got home. While a single cloud may add a dramatic element, too many clouds completely obstruct the sky, so many of these images required repeated attempts as I waited for the perfect conditions to materialize. Despite a lack of sleep, I was always riding an adrenaline rush by the time daylight arrived. These photographs capture what was revealed in the night sky while you were sleeping. My curiosity seeking a common connection of all things in the universe will drive me to continue exploring the world through photography. I hope others will join me in questioning what else is out there, how we got here and what we’ll find as we explore the largest galaxies and the smallest atoms. I encourage others to stay up late and enjoy the wonderment; no matter how you think it all got here, it sure is beautiful and inspiring.
